Program Information
A Civil Mechanical Engineer, trained at the Universidad de La Frontera, is a professional with the skills to work in the fields of mechanical design, energy, and production processes.
The graduate’s hallmark is engineering design with innovation and social responsibility. He/She has expertise in mathematics, physics, materials science, thermodynamics, solid mechanics, thermal processes, advanced manufacturing, automation, economics, and administration. This knowledge gives the graduate the analytical and methodological skills to design mechanical components and systems, as well as industrial production and energy transformation processes; to formulate engineering projects to develop new products in a viable and convenient way; and to support the areas of management, operations, and maintenance.
The graduate can communicate in a globalized world, work alone and/or in a team, and apply new knowledge through appropriate learning strategies. At the same time, he/she is aware of the ethical responsibilities of the profession.
This allows the graduate to work in industrial manufacturing, mining, energy generation, and service companies in the public or private sector, or self-employed.
Occupational Field
The graduate can work in:
• The mining, steel, forestry, pulp, agro-industrial and fishing industries;
• The energy sector (generation plants, renewable energy systems, fuels);
• The capital goods and consumer goods manufacturing industry (industrial machinery and equipment, textiles, metals and mechanic industry);
• The area of refrigeration and air conditioning, and in the service sector;
• Self-employed activities, as well as providing services in engineering offices (preparation and development of projects or consultancy).
*Students who enrolled in the Civil Engineering Common Plan or any other Civil Engineering Program of UFRO in the admission process 2024 must complete all first-year subjects, without the option of subject recognition or validation, to ensure compliance with the new graduate profiles and updated curricula.
