The Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the Universidad de La Frontera, IDEAUFRO, was created in 2014, in order to contribute to the fulfillment of the third university mission. Its aim is to conceive and transfer methods and habits that allow students and professionals to realize their potential and to participate in the innovation economy.
For this purpose, the institute develops partnerships, projects and training programs, aimed at strengthening the capacity of individuals and organizations, in orderto solve actual problems of society through experimentation and knowledge.

The mission of this institute is to update the human capital and develop projects focused on the study and solution of environmental problems through a multidisciplinary and innovative approach and with emphasis on the link with the environment.
It consists of the following units: Air Quality and Decontamination Technologies; Water Management and Technology; NCRE; Quality of Life and the Environment; Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Construction; ContinuousTraining, and Sustainable UFRO (Sustainable Campus).

The Institute of Local and Regional Development of the Universidad de La Frontera is an interdisciplinary and plural space for the creation and dissemination of knowledge, academic training and intellectual debate, opening up new opportunities for local and regional development in Chile and Latin America.

The Institute of Educational Computer Science is a multidisciplinary space with focus on research, development and innovation in the use and evaluation of digital technology and consulting in education public policies. It is characterized by adding value to research and innovation through a cycle of innovation, testing, application and transfer to the system.
For more than 20 years, the institute played a key role in the design and implementation of ICT policy in education in Chile and other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Its activities include projects and services for different government agencies, such as CONICYT (Fondef, Fondecyt), the Education Quality Agency and the Ministry of Education, as well as international organizations, such as UNESCO. Through the Chilean Center of Improvement, Experimentation and Pedagogical Research (CPEIP), the Institute of Educational Computer Science trains about 3 thousand teachers from different regions of Chile.
It also develops educational software, computer systems and other services, in order to support teaching and learning processes by acting directly in educational establishments in the south of Chile. Its scholars actively participate in postgraduate teaching and regularly publish in indexed journals.

This institute was founded in 1994 and has been one of the most important and prestigious institutions at the regional, national and international level for the study of intercultural processes and the promotion of indigenous peoples in general and particularly the Mapuche people in Chile.
Its mission is to contribute to the transformation of intercultural relations through teaching, research, outreach, community engagement and postgraduate programs.
The institute played a fundamental role in the development of teaching, being a space for training in areas like interculturality, law, Convention 169 and Mapudungun. Besides, it developed a workingline in pursuit of the incidence in public policies in the context of diversity and interculturality, as well as in works of lines of memory and currently of migrants.
